Winter Lights at Canary Wharf London

There are many reasons that I enjoy scrolling Instagram, I do love looking at photos and I always have done but also for the fact I discover places that I really want to go to. Through Museum Mums feed I saw the Winter Lights at Canary Wharf and found out that the event was completely free and is on each evening from 4-10pm but only until January 25th.

I asked the kids if any of them fancied going with me on Sunday afternoon and both girls said that it looked great but they were both pretty tired. I was all set to go alone and then my brother offered to meet me - Fin decided to join us at the last minute so we hopped on a train and got the Jubilee Line to Canary Wharf.

When we arrived it was still light but the sun was beginning to set. We were given a map showing where each of the 25 light installations were and we just strolled our way around. It was a welcome change to my usual Sunday afternoon indoors and lifted those January winter blues.

We didn't look at every installation but managed to see most of them. Here are a selection of pictures, as I mentioned it is on every evening but closes this Saturday, January 25th, 2020.

Do you know what? I felt like we could have been somewhere like New York or Tokyo. We arrived there at 4.30pm and we were home by 7.30pm. I paid £2.60 for a child travelcard and around £8 for an adult travelcard - using my Friends and Family discount railcard.

It has made me realise how easy it is for me to just go out of an evening. We were out for around 4 hours in total and I feel refreshed for it.
