Monochrome moments: How to bring this trend into your decor

We all have our own different tastes when it comes to everything in life. And that’s definitely the case when it comes to interior design. You’re always going to find that you’re preferred styles of decor are different to your mums or your best friends. Sometimes there will be things that cross over, but definitely not all of the time. So, it’s always going to be important for you to find your own inspiration when it comes to design. And not only that, but to put your own spin on things too.

Take monochrome. This is a design trend that has been around for awhile - and it's definitely not going anywhere just yet! If this is something that you like the idea of, you really have to work to make sure that it suits your style. So here’s how to bring it into your home.

1. Work With White Walls

First of all, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re working with a blank canvas. And this often comes in the shape of white walls. While you could definitely go for black - or even grey, it’s usually white that works out best. It’s also fresh and bright and light. So even when you are working a lot of black into the room, it doesn’t look to dark and depressing!

2. Stick To Block Colour

Next, you’re going to want to make sure that you get really smart with your colour placements. This is often how you can bring the monochrome trend to life. It’s important to make sure that you can get the room to look just right. So take a look at different ways to style colour blocking here. While those examples use colour, you could still do something similar with black and white.

3. Make Black & White Your Staples

Now, you know that black and white are going to be your staples for your interiors, but they don’t have to be all that you work with. When you take a look at these black and white interior examples here, you will see that there are lots of ways that you can set the space off. So get creative and see how you can bring the basic palette alive.

4. Decorate With The Right Accents

Then, you’re going to want to juxtapose the colours. So if you are doing white walls, go for black shelves, or even white picture frames on a black wall. You could also switch up the furniture so that it’s all in alternate colours too. Just play around with how you accent the different shades.

5. Stay On Theme

Now, one thing about the monochrome interior design trend, is that it often gets a very modern and minimal spin on it over and over. But you don’t have to go down the modern route. Instead, you could go for vintage glamor, or even go further and do something futuristic. No matter what kind of monochrome effect you want to create, make sure that you’re staying on trend with your design choices. This is the best way to make sure that you can bring the right look together.
