I have a confession to make. You know those crazy cat ladies you see and hear about? I'm one of them. Okay - maybe not quite so bad..... but we do have four cats.
So, seeing as they eat quite a lot of food every week, when the people at Pure Pet food said they were looking for bloggers with cats to test out their freeze dried cat food, I thought sure, why not?
Firstly, I'll introduce you to the brood.
Shy: She's a pedigree. Yep a pure bred Maine Coon cat. We often refer to her as Gandalf as she resembles a grey wizard. She is coming up to her 16th birthday. Maine Coon's are the largest domestic breed of cats. Shy is ALWAYS hungry and she's quite happy to shout about it every morning.
Dede: She is 14 years old, a very affectionate tabby cat, known to be a bit of a bird brain though. Not the most intelligent of cats and bottom of the pecking order amongst our four. She'll often eat last as the others push her out the way but she is very loving.
Isis: She's my cat. I bought her as a kitten and she is also 14. She is a Bengal and has only got soppy in her old age. She again is very vocal and always shouts for her food.
Beau: The baby of the family at 2 years old. She's a black and white rescue cat. She's tiny - you could easily mistake her for a kitten - she loves the children and will pretty much let them do anything to her.
Pure Pet Food use freeze drying technology allowing meat to be preserved with zero exposure to high temperature and pressure, retaining a real meat texture with zero preservatives. Freeze dried recipes are the easiest way to give your cat the goodness of a raw food diet without the prep, and with no need to store in a freezer.
The food comes in a box, inside is a bag of dried powder with a scoop and a clip to keep the freeze dried mixture fresh. The 200g of powder rehydrates to 800g of fresh food.
The boxes come in Surf and Turf with chicken and white fish it's grain and potato free with added superfood ingredients and Whisker Lickin' Chicken is a single source protein packed with freeze dried chicken.
They recommend you introduce the food gradually. I tried out one scoop of Surf and Turf first - all you do is add an equal quantity of warm water to the freeze dried mixture (so one scoop food to one scoop warm water) and wait a minute or two for the food to rehydrate.
Clearly my cats are so starved that they all started trying to eat the powdered mix whilst I was busy rehydrating the food, which brought on some comical sneezing as they were all sniffing it.
Once the food was actually ready to be eaten Isis was straight in there and seemed to happily wolf it down. The other's seemed a bit unsure about it at first.
Over the last few days, I've been gradually introducing Pure along with their usual catfood in jelly and their biscuits. Three of them are eating it but I've yet to convince Shy and, at almost 16 years old, I'm not sure that she will give in and try it.
Overall three of them seemed to enjoy Pure cat food and they'd happily continue to eat it. Pure also do dog food too. Our dog also happily polished off the left over cat food so I'm pretty sure he'd be happy to taste the Pure range too.
