Cadillac Diner

At the end of July we went for a very big treat - courtesy of Uncle Paul - dinner at Cadillac Diner in Shirley (near Croydon). Dinner out is usually saved as a birthday treat due to the large expense of paying for five of us, so this was a very big deal!

We "50s" ourselves up the best we could, Kiki wore her red polka dot dress, Shan wore a twirly dress with pink baseball boots - I rockabillied their hair to the best of my ability, even Fin rocked a little quiff and a leather jacket.

Now, I love watching Man v Food, we've never been to the US before, but I love all things Americana and would love to visit one day, tasting all the food along the way. Cadillac Diner is fab, outside is a motorcycle and neon lights, inside are booths, a juke box and number plates from all the states it really looks the part.

The owner is so friendly, he showed the girls how to use the juke box as soon as we arrived. The milkshakes are delicious! So may flavours, the kids chose black cherry and chocolate, I had a coke float and the guys had root beer.

Kids meals are around £5 and include a drink (or £1 upgrade for a milkshake). The prices of the food are so reasonable for the portion size, the food is amazing. I went for a classic cheeseburger in a brioche bun with fries and salad (£7.95) oh my, it was so good. The boys went for a full rack of ribs, marinated overnight in Budweiser with all the trimmings - Lee said they were the best ribs he'd ever eaten, so tender and juicy. On the menu are special huge burgers too, steaks, chicken, fish, lasagne and of course puddings.

The kids shared a knickerbocker glory! We left there totally stuffed full and so happy - Fin has requested to go back for his birthday in October.

We need more diners over here!

Go check them out at 147 Wickham Road, Croydon, Surrey, CR0 8TE. OPen Tuesday to Friday 3-11pm, Saturday 12noon-midnight and Sunday 12-9pm. www.cadillacdiner.co.uk
