Rainy Day Potions

January in the UK generally means - grey skies and rain, it's been pretty gloomy this week, and although we had a tiny bit of snow yesterday, we're back to rain again today.

Most children go a bit crazy if they're cooped up indoors for too long, so it's good to have a few things up your sleeves for those rainy days.

This potion does not need many ingredients:

A glass or jar

Warm water

Cooking oil

Food colouring (three of four different colours)

First of all fill a glass three quarters of the way with warm water.

In a separate cup put about two spoonfuls of cooking oil (any kind will do). Add a couple of drops of food colouring to the oil, use a few different colours for the best effect, don't put too much in, it works best with small droplets, then give the oil a little stir with a fork.

Pour the oil into the warm water and let it do its magic!

The oil will stay floating on the top with lots of coloured bubbles and the colours gently swirl into the water - it looks amazing. Let all the kids take turns and see what pattern they come up with. Here is a close-up of our potion - enjoy!
